About Us
Servicing the Sunshine Coast QLD
SurfEdge Sports Physiotherapy was inspired by a love for sport and optimising health, offering personalised care that empowers athletes and everyday individuals alike to achieve their best performance.

Our Story
At SurfEdge Physiotherapy, we believe physiotherapy should be more than just injury treatment—it should be about optimising movement, preventing injuries, and helping you perform at your best. Whether you're an athlete pushing for peak performance, recovering from an injury, or looking to stay active and pain-free, we are committed to providing expert care tailored to your needs.
With a strong background in sports physiotherapy, we have worked with athletes at both Australian and international levels, supporting them through high-performance demands, injury rehabilitation, and competition preparation. Our experience extends across a wide range of sports, from surf lifesaving and endurance sports to team-based and strength-focused disciplines. No matter your level, we bring the same commitment to helping you move well, stay strong, and recover effectively.
We take the time to get it right. Our one-hour initial consultations allow us to fully assess your movement, identify the underlying causes of pain or dysfunction, and develop a treatment plan that delivers real results. Whether you need hands-on therapy, tailored rehabilitation, or a structured performance program, our approach is always evidence-based and focused on your specific goals.
Our services include:
- Sports injury rehabilitation – Acute and chronic injury management for all levels of sport
- Performance enhancement – Movement optimisation, strength programming, and injury prevention
- Post-surgical rehabilitation – Structured recovery plans to help you regain strength and mobility
- General musculoskeletal physiotherapy – Treatment for pain, stiffness, and movement limitations
We work with athletes and active individuals across all sports, from competitive professionals to those simply looking to move better in daily life. Whether you're dealing with a recent injury, managing ongoing niggles, or striving to improve your performance, our goal is to help you Recover, perform and excel.
At SurfEdge Physiotherapy, we don’t just treat injuries—we help you move with confidence, stay injury-free, and reach your full potential.

Meet The Team
Kirstie Tyson is the principal physio at SurfEdge Sports Physiotherapy. She has a passion for Sports Physiotherapy and takes pride in her ability to champion our patients towards recovery.
Kirstie has been involved in elite sport as an athlete, coach, official, and physiotherapist for over 22 years (15 of those in physiotherapy), and, as a physio, she has worked with professional dancers and acrobats, sailing, softball, marathon, triathlon and cricket teams, and is currently on the SLSA Medical team, providing physio services for major Surf Lifesaving events including the Aussies, Coolangatta Gold and the Lifesaving World Championships. Kirstie is an active member of Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club, and has previously been involved with Redcliffe SLSC.
Kirstie prioritises taking the time to thoroughly investigate each issue and arrive at an accurate diagnosis. She firmly believes that a comprehensive assessment is the foundation of effective treatment planning. Her treatment approach emphasises hands-on techniques, complemented by tailored exercises that guide progression and support her patients in their recovery journey. Though she is a Sunshine Coast local, she has worked in Brisbane and Melbourne over the past 14 years, building strong relationships with specialists, doctors, and sports teams along the way.
She is particularly interested in lower limb injury rehabilitation, especially knee injuries and ACL-specific rehab, which has led her to pursue further research in this area and present at national and international conferences on the topic. She has also undergone further training in a number of areas including: concussion management, headache management, dry needling and western acupuncture, hip and pelvis injury management, shoulder injury management, brain endurance training, sports vision training, strength and conditioning and advanced coaching across a number of sports.
Kirstie leads an active lifestyle and has participated in various sports, particularly sailing and surf lifesaving. On weekends, you’ll likely find her volunteering at the surf club, spending time at the beach with her family and dog, or staying active through hitting the gym, walking the dog or swimming!
