Meet The Team
Hi there, My name is Kirstie and I am the founder and principal physio at SurfEdge Physiotherapy. I have a passion for Sports Physiotherapy and I take pride in my ability to work as a team with my patients to cheer them towards recovery.
I have been involved in elite sport as an athlete, coach, official, and physiotherapist for over 22 years (15 of those in physiotherapy), and, as a physio, have worked with professional dancers and acrobats, sailing, softball, marathon, triathlon and cricket teams, and currently am on the SLSA Medical team, providing physio for major Surf Lifesaving events including the Aussies, Coolangatta Gold and the Lifesaving World Championships. I am currently an active member of Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club, and have previously been involved with Redcliffe SLSC.
As a physio, I prioritise taking the time to thoroughly investigate each issue and arrive at an accurate diagnosis. I firmly believe that data-driven practice is essential; after all, “if you aren’t measuring when assessing, you’re guessing.” A comprehensive assessment is the foundation of effective treatment planning. My approach emphasises hands-on techniques, complemented by tailored exercises that guide progression and support my patients on their recovery journey. Though I’m a Sunshine Coast local, I’ve also worked in Brisbane and Melbourne over the past 14 years, building strong relationships with specialists, doctors, and sports teams along the way.
I’m particularly interested in lower limb injury rehabilitation, especially knee injuries and ACL-specific rehab, which has led me to pursue further research in this area and present at national and international conferences on the topic. I have also undergone further training in a number of areas including: concussion management, headache management, dry needling and western acupuncture, hip and pelvis injury management, shoulder injury management, brain endurance training, sports vision training, neuroperformance training and advanced coaching including strength and conditioning.
I lead an active lifestyle and have participated in various sports, especially sailing and surf lifesaving. On weekends, you’ll likely find me volunteering at the surf club, spending time at the beach with my family and dog, or staying active through cycling, walking, or swimming!
